The Truth About Your Loved One

Addiction is the THIRD largest cause of death in the nation. The hard truth is, unmitigated addiction puts the user at risk of death. However, what happens in between the first substance abuse and the last? Starting at a young age, not only does it allow for easier addictions to develop, if harmful substances like narcotics or alcohol it can also stunt growth. Physical and mental development is impeded through the consumption of addictive substances such as alcohol, leading to a wide array of medical issues down the road. What about costs? As an example, the yearly spending for heroin abusers ranges from 22K to 98K, depending on the local prices. With this amount easily surpassing the average yearly income within the US, it’s easy to see how addiction financially ruins families all across the country. Not only can addiction ruin your loved ones health and finances, but also their relationships. There’s countless tragic stories of loss, assault and pain due to addiction. Within the United States, 80% of the population would not want a neighbor, associate or friend that struggles with an addiction. So not only is your loved one at risk of losing connections with those they have, but can actually be prevented from developing meaningful relationships with others, whether due to stigma or preference.

Approximately 9.5% of American adults ages 18 and over, will suffer from a depressive illness (major depression, bipolar disorder, or dysthymia) each year. This leads to cases of suicides, severing of family ties, and other tragedies that can plague a household with mental health unchecked.
